GMTX 203 & 204 - ex-ARR 1551 & 1552 - nee-LEF 25 & 26
They will come out of the shops in Tacoma in late January & will have been painted in the blue GATX scheme. They will go into the GATX lease fleet, waiting for a working assignment. They have not been to work for almost 2 years - having been retired & then sold by Alaska RR. Nice to see they will be back at work instead of meeting the scrapper.

Usibelli expects record-breaking year - 12/20/11

FAIRBANKS - Aurora Energy Services, a subsidiary of Usibelli Coal Mine Inc., expects to exceed 1 million metric tons of coal exports in 2011, the company announced.

It will be the first time the company has reached the milestone in 26 years. Approximately four trains per week travel the Alaska Railroad between Healy and Seward, carrying about 7,000 tons of coal in each.

National Railway Historical Society to convene in Alaska - 12/13/11

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The National Railway Historical Society has revealed it’ll hold its 2013 convention in Anchorage, Alaska. The event will also include pre-convention activities in Fairbanks, Alaska, and several charter train operations on Alaska Railroad.

The convention will include an in-depth look at rail operations and history in the state. It’ll take place in mid-September. Details are available at www.nrhs.com.

Driver escapes injury as train demolishes his car - 12/13/11

A man whose car was struck by a train after he drove through a Wasilla railroad crossing Monday night was apparently uninjured in the collision, according to the Alaska Railroad.

Usibelli withdraws permit request for Sutton coal mine - 10/24/11

The leaseholder for a controversial coal mine proposed in the Matanuska Valley has withdrawn its application for a state air quality permit for a second time, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation and the company, Usibelli Coal Mine, Inc.

But since the 110-year-old steam engine’s conversation is limited to huffing and puffing, local ghosts, goblins, wizards, witches and spooky beings of all sorts can take a ride Saturday at Pioneer Park and come up with their own stories to tell.
