Alaska Railroad 501 2-8-0 Consolidation was built by Lima Locomotive works
in 1942 and placed in service on May 30. On May 4, 1948, Extra 501 North derailed
11 cars at Mile 13.5, blocking traffic for 30 hours and 30 minutes. Car No.
2401 was damaged beyond repair and was destroyed at site of wreck.
