On November 20, 2004 4008 was involved in a train/truck accident requiring minor repair to the front of the locomotive. The locomotive was sent south for repair and Deane Motis caught a photo of it in the Seattle yard on January 2005.

Randy Thompson adds, "I was down at Harbor Island this afternoon [March 8, 2005] under cloudy skies (not good for photo taking) and saw ARR Spirit of Wasilla, 4008. It has been in Montana [Talgo-LRC] over the winter for repairs to the front end from an encounter with a semi-truck (I think) last summer. There was some evidence of repairs, a new ditch light, new paint, new plow, etc, nothing too obvious to me. It's to be loaded onto the barge tomorrow, Wednesday, March 9th, for the week long trip to Whittier. It took the BNSF a week to get it from Pasco, WA to Harbor Island, that's not that far.
