Dam

The dam/reservoir was about two miles up the Deadhorse Creek canyon. If you look at the online aerial photos, the road to the dam almost appears to be an east-west cross runway. Follow it up the canyon & you get there. Stephen Sheldon's picture is the only one that I know of; that's quite a treasure, by itself. In Steph's picture of the dam, he and his sister Mary are in the foreground. In the background are my sisters, Karen, Julie & myself.

The concrete square block in the foreground of the dam structure was a collection chamber, from where water was then piped to the steam/electrical "Power Plant." There used to be a corrugated tin shack in front of the dam; it may still be there. It contained a boiler - for what purpose I never knew.

The dam may still be there. It's probably overgrown and forgotten, if it is. For an add-on adventure in Curry, it would be worth a hike through the willows. I suspect the original 'road' is covered in brush, by now. It could be a great adventure to hack a trail through the willows to get up to the old dam. Beware of the bear; there were a lot of wild cranberry bushes in the area. Add the nasty kind of thorn-bushes, as well.
